Dr. Kyle Ethelbah is a higher education professional and the Director of College Programs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He oversees multiple federally funded initiatives, including TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), the TRIO McNair Scholars Program, and academic support for Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander students (AANAPISI). With over 25 years of experience, he has worked extensively in admissions, academic advising, financial aid, and TRIO programs focused on supporting low-income and first-generation students.
Dr. Ethelbah has also been active in efforts to address HIV infection rates within the American Indian community. Through his Limited Liability Company (LLC), Positive Native, he has partnered with several tribal agencies including the Navajo Nation, Tohono O’odham community, the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the Hopi tribe to incorporate personal story telling as a means to engage individuals to acknowledge and address these rates in their communities. He has also served on the Ryan White Planning Council for the Las Vegas metropolitan area where he was able to help steer appropriate funds to area agencies to support HIV prevention efforts.
Dr. Ethelbah is a proud member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona. He received a Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Arizona (‘97) and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) – Health Promotion emphasis from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (’09) and a graduate Certificate in American Indian Health (CAIH) from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD (’15). He recently completed doctoral studies at the University of Southern California, earning a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Organizational Change and Leadership Program. Kyle loves trail running and finds opportunities to run the mountains and deserts when he’s not overwhelmed with school or work
