Program Description: The mission of NHMA is to empower Hispanic/Latino physicians to lead efforts to improve the health of Hispanic/Latino populations in collaboration with the state, regional, and local level Hispanic/Latino medical societies, resident and medical student organizations, and other public and private sector partners to cause positive community impact to meet excellence in healthcare standards, connect people to service they need when they need it as well as identify systemic issues with healthcare delivery that calls for further data collection to inform policy at both state and national level.

Services Offered: As the Nevada Chapter of NHMA, we focus on advocating for minority health, empowering with education our communities so they can and know how to advocate for their varied medical needs. We also focus on advancing latino health, medical education and research leaders based on service. We do this by actively trying to review and obtain data to affect health policy for our communities based on their reported needs and serving as mentors for the next generation of physicians and leaders from a Latinx background or those who deliver care to Latinx/minority populations.

Target Populations: Children, School Aged-Children, Teens, Young Adults, Adults, Seniors, LGBTQ+, Disabled,  Hispanic/Latinx Populations, , Low Income, Immigrants, Refugees, Undocumented and other ethnic and minority health groups.

Research/Focal Areas: Cardiovascular Diseases, Child Welfare, Children’s Health, Community Organizing, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Education, Employment, Environmental Justice, Family Health, Food, Harm Reduction, Health Care, Health Equity, Homelessness, Housing, Injury Prevention, Mental Health, Mutual Aid, Poverty, Public Policy, Prevention, Racial Justice, Refugees, Respiratory Health, Reproductive and Sexual Health, Social Justice (Criminal/Juvenile Justice), Substance Abuse/Misuse, Suicide, Transportation, Violence and Trauma, Women’s Health, Other, Underrepresented minorities in medicine leadership.
