Workshop Description:

Data is an essential tool that can help shape your work in your community. Data can help you pin-point areas of focus to maximize your efforts with limited resources. In this workshop, we will cover the value of data collection, how to store and manage data, and identify data resources. Participants will learn how to integrate data and storytelling into their day-to-day work.

2. To describe how to store, manage and share data
3. To use data to tell a story

Christopher Johansen, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Social and Behavioral Health at UNLV School of Public Health. His research aims to address Latino health disparities. He was born and raised in Southern California and is the first male in his family to graduate from college. He earned his BS in Psychology from University of California, Davis, his MPH from San Diego State University, and his PhD in Health Promotion Sciences from Claremont Graduate University. Prior to coming to UNLV, he completed a postdoctoral training at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health working on various interventions to address health disparities (e.g., HPV vaccination, colorectal cancer screening, and preschool obesity prevention). Dr. Johansen strives to train and work alongside the next generation of public health practitioners in Southern Nevada.

Chibudom Yanez has lived in Las Vegas for over seven years and currently serves as a Senior Management Analyst for the City of Las Vegas. With a diverse background in government agencies and non-profit organizations throughout the Las Vegas Valley, she brings extensive experience to her role. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Education from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Originally from Nigeria, Chibudom immigrated to the United States at a young age, sparking her passion for engaging underserved populations and ethnically diverse communities. Her career has included roles in Foster Care Services, case management at a local WIC and Early Head Start organization, and international partnerships promoting equity and education in Spanish-speaking countries. She has designed and facilitated trainings on family preservation, nutrition education, and community engagement. In her current role in Human Resources, she focuses on employee relations and organizational development training.
