Program Description: Develop a current and future pipeline of qualified healthcare workers for Nevada Enhance education and training within community based organizations and academic institutions. Be responsive to current and emergent issues to ensure quality healthcare practices.

Services Offered: High Sierra Area Health Education Center (AHEC) continues to be an organization dedicated to recruiting, developing, and strengthening the future healthcare workforce of Nevada. We are deeply committed to providing equitable and comprehensive opportunities; engaging in outreach that exposes young people from groups underrepresented in the healthcare workforce to role models and mentors; further inspiring their pursuit and tangibility of a healthcare career. Our nationally recognized programs target first-generation, low-income, and rural students in a six-country catchment area. Presently, High Sierra AHEC has varied programs with a focus towards this overarching goal at primary, secondary, and higher education levels. In addition to our outreach via workforce development, High Sierra AHEC also has projects focused towards health equity outside of the workforce space. Our Surveillance for Emerging Threats to Mothers and Babies Network (SET-NET) project focuses on research and advocacy towards health equity for mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, our collaborative initiative Nevada Cultural Competency, focuses on providing mandated cultural competency training under NRS 449.103 and AB327, that is representative of numerous minority populations and key concepts towards health equity.
