Program Description:
Our Mission:
Is to Generate Inner Respect, Love and Self-empowerment in African American women and teen girls that are, or have been in dysfunctional and/or disadvantaged lifestyles through a positive, productive and beneficial environment.
Our Strategy:
The GIRLS Group provides mentoring programs, workshops and retreats that will educate and empower women and teen girls to achieve their personal and professional goals. The mentoring sessions and workshops are designed from our organization’s objectives, which are Love, Better You and Empowerment. The organization will draw women and teen girls from varying circumstances. Some of these women and teen girls may represent low-income families, two parent households, abusive relationships whether it being spousal or parental, or in need of support and information. Some of these women and teen girls may not have been exposed to certain fundamentals needed to succeed in society, such as filling out a job application, preparing for a job interview, financial planning, learning computer skills, proper nutrition, and career planning to name a few.
The workshops are designed to empower and encourage women to achieve their personal best. To help women make choices that will produce self-assurance and positive thinking, which in turn will Generate Inner Respect Love and Self-Empowerment.
We engage the girls in the mentoring sessions to enhance and build self-esteem and confidence; provide educational development & goal setting; encourage community and cultural awareness; demonstrate etiquette and leadership skills and promote healthy lifestyles. Our purpose is to help the girls make choices that will produce self-assured, positive thinking, which will teach the girls responsibility and accountability for their actions, achievements, and accomplishments.
In our efforts to give back to our community we will provide various fund-raising endeavors that will raise funds from all sectors within the community. We will use these funds in the planning and implementation of our mission and goals
Our Vision:
To provide guidance and information to these women and teen girls that will help them to become healthier members of our society. Encourage them to discover their talents and pursue their goals, while securing and maintaining financial independence. Equip them with the necessary tools for them to adjust in everyday situations and throughout their lives.
We will cultivate relationships with the teen girls via our mentoring program, while they are in middle school and throughout high school. One portion of the relationship is to ensure that they maintain good grades, which will present them with options for higher education. We also hope to generate within these women and teen girls a feeling of inner respect and love for themselves, while learning to be self-empowered.
