SUMMARY:Introduction to Health Communication
DESCRIPTION:Registration (Space is Limited)Workshop Description:\nHealth communication is the practice of sharing effective\, accurate\, and actionable information with the community to empower well-informed health choices. Community-based organizations have a growing involvement in the creation and dissemination of health-related information that can impact lives. This workshop will cover the basic principles of health communication and the various ways to deliver health information. The workshop will be interactive and does not require prior health communication experience. Come ready to get creative! \nLearning Objectives:\n\nExplore the concept of health communication\nIdentify different health communication delivery methods\nEvaluate the efficiency of previous health communication campaigns\nDesign effective health communication strategies that are culturally competent and consider the importance of health equity\n\nFeatured Speakers\nAmanda Morgan\, PhD\, MPH\nAssociate Professor in Residence\nUNLV School of Public Health \nAmanda Morgan\, Ph.D\, MPH joined the UNLV School of Public Health in 2011. She has been teaching full time since then\, instructing students in environmental justice\, sexuality and sexuality health\, and introduction to public health courses. As part of the Social and Behavioral Department at the UNLV School of Public Health\, Dr. Morgan is passionate about empowering people to make risk-aware health choices and help prevent the health disparities that we see today across some many Southern Nevada communities. Amanda is a UNLV alumni\, receiving her B.S\, MPH\, and Ph.D all from UNLV. \nDavid Perez\nEquity and Community Director\nImmunize Nevada \nDavid rejoined Immunize Nevada in February 2021 and resumed responsibilities for managing and implementing equitable distribution processes of COVID-19 vaccines and resources through various state initiatives and collaborations. One of which includes the Nevada Vaccine Equity Collaborative\, operated in partnership with the Nevada Minority Health and Equity Coalition. David earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations from the University of Nevada\, Reno and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in journalism and media studies at UNLV. \nAaliyah Goodie\, MPH\nVaccine Equity Manager\nImmunize Nevada \nAaliyah joined the Immunize Nevada team in November 2020 to work on newly implemented efforts around COVID-19 vaccines. Aaliyah currently serves on the equity team at Immunize Nevada in working to ensure equitable distribution and resources for the COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines and is also working to launch additional research projects to study COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
